Indemedical.com is proud to introduce Rowheels REV1 Wheels. These state of the art wheels take an alternative approach to wheelchair propulsion by utilizing a pull propulsion method. REV1 wheels provide numerous advantages over the standard push, lever, or power assist propulsion and easily allows users to transition from pushing to pulling. No buttons to push or levers to turn.
Rev1 Wheels have an assisted braking system that takes advantage of the counter rotation between the hand rim and wheel. Simply push into the handrim towards your body to engage the brake pads against the wheel rim braking surface.
Rowheels Rev1 Wheels feature a tri-grip handle and are a breeze to mount. REV1 wheels are made with advanced materials and components in an effort to produce a product that is reliable and durable while also functioning smoothly and seamlessly. Benefits of using Rowheels over standard wheels include improved posture and reduced repetition, while promoting a healthy heart.
The rowing motion of the Rowheels REV1 is conducive to proper positioning of shoulders and back, which minimizes the harmful effects associated with the “sunken chest ” posture of wheelchair users.
(Row Wheeling vs Push Wheeling>:
8 of 9 upper body muscles studied actively contribute to row wheeling compared to only 2 with push wheeling. In addition to this row wheeling results in 23% higher average velocities, at user-selected comfortable pace; and a 50% increase in range of motion. 41% of time spent in active propulsion when row wheeling compared to 32% in push wheeling.
Pulling reduces cadence and the REV1s' geared hub was designed such that for every handrim revolution, the wheel turns 1.3 times more. This reduces cadence by about 30%. The combination of the ROW EFFECT + GEAR EFFECT significantly reduces user stroke count, which directly contributes to the onset of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and repetitive stress injuries of the shoulder.
Push wheeling mechanics are bad for shoulder health. Row wheeling uses fundamentally different bio-mechanics minimizing "effort" in manual wheelchair propulsion while moderately increasing a users cardio-pulmonary output. This could result in long-term improvements in stamina, endurance and overall cardiovascular health.
